HIBWe have moved the workshop to an other place where we have more room (1200m²) and a large area for stocking our wood, so that it can dry slowly and naturally.

Now that we are working with 6 people we need more space, also because being 6, we can accept bigger orders. And we can realize an old dream: we will open a museum with a workshop in working order of the 19th -begin 20th century, with period machines and woodworking tools.

We will also open a smithy.

General Woodworking

Our firm started in 1982 in Ixelles (Brussels). After 10 years we were forced to move to Groot-Bijgaarden where we acquired a workshop with three levels of 200 squaremeter each. On the groundfloor we have all the necessary, traditional woodworking machines. At the first floor we have everything for the manual work, like benches, press, tables for assembling and gluing and our stock of old hardware for furniture and carpentry. At the second floor you will find our large stock of veneers and a part of our solid wood stock. At the covered yard in front of the workshop is the important stock of mostly European wood and some expensive woods like mahogany, rosewood, ... .

We work only purposemade and in solid wood. Our method is traditional, which does not mean that the form has to be traditional too. We are specialized in restoration work and copies of old carpentry, often in classified buildings, and the restoration of furniture. Every discipline is used, also  woodturning, veneering and sculpture.
Since 2008 Diederik Lutjeharms is fully employed at the workshop. Diederik studied furnituremaking/restoration at Leeds College of Arts.We work with one workman Rodolphe Rolly and two apprentices Manuel and Sebastien Pihen

Henk Lutjeharms obtained a Master degree in psychology (1973) and in pedagogy (1977) at the University of Brussels (VUB). Till 1980 he worked as a social worker. Afterwards he worked several years with a retired carpenter and got his certificate of qualification as a carpenter at the Arts et Metiers-Institut Diderot in Brussels in 1985. Afterwards he completed his formation with a course in traditional rooftimbers (Crepac 1991).

Diederik worked after his training at the Leeds College of Arts several years before joining our company in 2008. He will take over the management in 2015

Henk Lutjeharms started as an independent carpenter-furniture maker in 1981. He specialized in carpentry and furniture in solid wood with the traditional techniques. An important part of his work consists of restoration and copying of old carpentry. He works since 2008 with two young men and mostly for specialized jobs in smaller buildings.

In 2012 we changed the firm into sprl Lutjeharms, with Diedrik and myself as associates.
